Stitched Back Together

After yesterday’s excitement, I am feeling much better today. My face still looks ridiculous, but I don’t feel like I am on the brink of death, so we will count this as a positive. I woke up twice during the night and I did as Steve requested and woke him up so he could stand outside the bathroom door in case anything happened. He didn’t complain, or moan or anything, he just jumped right out of bed and turned on all the lights for me. I already knew he was the best boyfriend ever, but he really has gone above and beyond over the past 48 hours. As I attempted to clean myself up this morning, I took a tally of my injuries:

  • 5 stitches in my chin
  • 2 gashes on my nose
  • A hand that I am pretty sure isn’t okay. I may go back for a second x-ray. I can’t even hold a pencil…
  • About 7 needle marks all over my arms from various IVs
  • A giant face

Considering how bad this all could have been, I feel pretty lucky that those are the only injuries I have to tally. I could have easily hurt my neck in my fall and that would have been a much more serious condition to deal with.

When I woke up at 5:15 this morning, I was completely starved and feeling some pain. I definitely needed to get some food in my belly before I could take any hardcore pain pills. The world’s best boyfriend again didn’t complain in the slightest when I fired up the blender to make a green monster.

Recycled photo due to the fact that it was pitch black out.

I am definitely not ready for solid food yet, so the rest of the day will likely be composed of green monsters, Slimfast, applesauce, and squished up bananas.

I would do horrible, horrible things to be able to eat a bagel right now. I’m not 100% back, but I feel a million times better than yesterday. This is a sign of good things to come!

Have you ever had stitches?

Tell me about one of your cool scars!

  1. Dang, I just read about your ordeal and I’m so glad you’re okay! That had to be super scary for all involved – please rest up and feel better soon!!!

  2. I’m so glad you are feeling better. You really gave us a fright yesterday. Hugs and kisses to Steve for being so great and even managing to keep us all posted during the crisis. Stitches? Once, I was trying to take my college parking sticker off the bumper of my car with a razor blade. I slipped and almost cut my finger off. Had to go to the ER and have my thumb put back together. I also remember a little girl who fell off the playground equipment at Dennis the Menace park in Monterrey and had to have her head stitched up. Anyone you know?
    Love,
    Your mom

  3. Hi Camille!
Glad you’re doing much better now. I just wanted to note that your attitude towards this whole thing is exceptional. The way you pull yourself together with humor while being able to accept help as well… I hope that soon you’ll get to eat the best bagel ever! 🙂
